TRIBUTE TO RETAIL
A night of celebration for the retailers that the industry chose as the highlights of 2022.
The retailers that, in the opinion of the industry, stood out in the last year will be honored by the Grupo Eletrolar in the 6th edition of the Presidents Event. It will be a fraternization party between industry and retail, and a recognition to those who know that negotiation is not a confrontation, but rather the beginning of a relationship that yields dividends for both parties. In this article, learn a little about the honored networks.
BEMOL
Founded in 1942, in Manaus (AM), it operates within a code of ethics that aims to strengthen the provision of services and good business conduct in society. It has 39 physical department stores, which serve cities in the Western Amazon, such as Manaus, Porto Velho, Boa Vista and Rio Branco, an e-commerce store for all Brazil and three distribution centers, in addition to supermarkets and pharmacies.
Since 1993, it stands out as the largest ICMS taxpayer in the state of Amazonas, in the commercial segment. Among the categories present in its stores are home appliances, consumer electronics, small appliances, cell phones, computers, games, air conditioning, furniture, home and decor, toys, stationery school products and tools. Last year, it launched the Bemol Digital account, its financial services arm.
CASA & VÍDEO
From its merger with Le Biscuit, CVLB was born, one of the largest retail companies in Brazil. Together, they have almost 400 physical stores in 15 states, in the Southeast, North, Northeast and Midwest regions, and two distribution centers in Bahia and Rio de Janeiro. The merger takes both to another level, with the expansion of services, gains in scale, increased efficiency, and greater investment capacity.
The two brands will be maintained and there will be more room for organic sales growth, including digital sales, and expansion in the number of stores. CVLB will benefit from Casa & Vídeo’s expertise in the sale of small appliances and smartphones and Le Biscuit’s know-how in seasonality items and development of private labels.
FAST SHOP
It began operating in 1986 as an authorized Yamaha dealer. In 1991, it opened its first store at Shopping Ibirapuera, in São Paulo, and, in 2000, the internet sales site. Today, it has more than 80 physical stores in large capitals. In addition to São Paulo, it is present in Belo Horizonte (MG), Curitiba (PR), Porto Alegre (RS), Rio de Janeiro (RJ) and Salvador (BA). In 2008, it launched the first Apple Premium Reseller in the country, A2YOU.
In its units, recognized for their good taste, there are environments ready for product experimentation. It presents the latest in home appliances, consumer electronics, telephony and information technology. One of its characteristics is to sell, mainly, products of big brands. It also has specialized services, such as Ultra Fast, which delivers the purchase in up to two hours.
GAZIN
In the market for over 55 years, Gazin maintains its headquarters in Douradina (PR), where it was born. Today, it has 327 stores distributed in the states of Paraná, Amazonas, Acre, Bahia, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Goiás, Pará, Paraíba, Rio Grande do Sul, Rondônia, Roraima, São Paulo and Tocantins. It also has 24 distribution centers and e-commerce. The Grupo Gazin comprises 11 companies.
All its stores are on the street. In medium and large cities, they are in downtown, also acting strongly in the neighborhoods, a traditional chain policy. Its product mix includes consumer electronics, home appliances, laptops, furniture, mattresses, housewares, air conditioning, ventilation, information technology and leisure. In 1996, Atacado Gazin (Gazin Wholesaler) opened to serve small and medium-sized retailers across the country.
GRUPO CARREFOUR
In 1975, it arrived in Brazil and opened its first hypermarket in São Paulo, with an innovative concept that shook food retail. Today, it is a business ecosystem that caters to different segments. It sells practically everything, from food to home appliances and consumer electronics. Operations in Brazil have become the group’s second most important, behind only the French market.
It has more than 1,100 points of sale in all states of the country and the Federal District and in different formats. Among them, Carrefour (hypermarket), Carrefour Bairro, Carrefour Market (supermarket), Carrefour Express (proximity retail), Carrefour.com (e-commerce), Atacadão (wholesale and wholesale self-service) and Sam´s Club (club of shopping). It values diversity in its workforce and acts strongly on the issue of sustainability.
HAVAN
Its first store was opened in 1986, in Brusque (SC). It had only 45 sqm, one employee and sold only fabrics. Currently, it employs more than 22,000 people and has more than 170 units in 22 states in Brazil, most of them concentrated in the South and Southeast regions. The stores have an average size of 4,700 sqm. Some have leisure space.
In its portfolio, there are home appliances, consumer electronics, cell phones, bed, table and bath, tools and gardening products, among other items. In total, there are more than 350,000 items. In 1995, it placed the first Statue of Liberty on a storefront, which became a feature of the chain. It operates in e-commerce, and its distribution center, with 200,000 sqm, is in Barra Velha, in the countryside of Santa Catarina, supplying all Havan stores.
KOERICH
Founded 68 years ago, as a dry goods store, it is one of the main brands in Santa Catarina, where it has 122 stores and a distribution center, in the city of Biguaçu, close to the capital Florianópolis. In 1993, it began operating in the furniture and consumer electronics segments. Its mix also includes the categories of air conditioning and ventilation, small appliances, automotive, sports and leisure, children and babies, toys, decoration and tools.
In addition to its traditional points of sale, Koerich has been investing in megastores, whose characteristic is a differentiated and expanded portfolio, in technology, logistics and online channels, integrating its services and offering more agility to customers. It also invests in corporate governance and ESG policies.
LOJAS CEM
With 71 years of activity, completed on July 1st, Lojas Cem has 302 stores in the states of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, and Paraná, all in standardized buildings. The most recent unit was opened on June 30 of this year in Morro Agudo, in the countryside of São Paulo. Headquartered in Salto (SP), the chain has its distribution center in the same city, with a storage area of 233,200 sqm.
The company operates within ESG standards. Invest in photovoltaic energy and sustainability. Most of its stores run on clean, renewable energy. It doesn’t purchase furniture without knowing the origin of the wood. In each store, it offers 4,000 items, including white and brown lines, small appliances, cell phones, IT products, furniture, bicycles, and housewares.
LOJAS COLOMBO
The chain, founded in 1961 by Adelino Colombo, in the city of Farroupilha (RS), where it still has its headquarters, is the largest retailer of home appliances and furniture in the southern region of Brazil. It has 302 physical stores and is present in 205 cities in the southern states and in Mato Grosso do Sul. It has two distribution centers, in Porto Alegre (RS) and Curitiba (PR), and five warehouses with its own fleet.
This year, the retailer has already inaugurated 11 units. Its mix is wide, encompassing more than 100,000 items including home appliances, consumer electronics, small appliances, smartphones, decor, bed, table and bath, and sports and leisure. Operates in e-commerce and marketplace. With its responsive website, it can sell throughout Brazil.
MAGAZINE LUIZA
It was born as a small gift shop in the city of Franca, in the countryside of São Paulo, in 1957, and has become one of the largest retailers in the country. It has 1,302 units distributed across 20 Brazilian states, around 35,000 employees and 23 distribution centers. It has experienced several cycles: expansion through the countryside of Brazil, entry into the São Paulo market, regional coverage via acquisitions and digital transformation. It created an ecosystem that helped thousands of other businesses enter the digital universe.
It offers more than 26 million items and works a lot through the marketplace. Multichannel network, modernized, but maintains its culture and values. It also advances in the environmental agenda with committees that study mechanisms for reducing waste and consumption of natural resources. It included recycled plastic in the packaging process and saved, last year, 300 tons of virgin raw material. Now, 60% of the material used in the manufacture of packaging is recycled.
NOVO MUNDO
The chain, which is part of a group that operates in several areas, such as agribusiness, industry, and wholesale shopping, registered an accumulated growth of 12% in the first half of this year compared to the same period in 2022. Since 2015, it works in a multichannel way and, in 2020, it promoted digital transformation in all stores. It fully integrated the physical with the digital, offering the same price on the website and in stores.
Today, it has 153 stores in eight states: Goiás, Mato Grosso, Tocantins, Maranhão, Pará, Amazonas, Roraima, and Bahia, in addition to the Federal District. It has six distribution centers located in Goiânia, Cuiabá, Belém, São Luiz, Manaus, and Brasília, and three warehouses in Boa Vista, Santarém and Palmas. Its mix covers 300,000 items, including the marketplace. Among them, home appliances, consumer electronics, laptops, cell phones and furniture.
VIA
It is present in Brazilian homes with e-commerce and stores under the Casas Bahia and Ponto brands, with online sales at Extra.com.br, financial solutions at banQi, the furniture factory Bartira and logtech Asap Log, in addition to the association with the District. The new identity, with which it moved from Via Varejo to VIA, took place in 2021. The objective was to reinforce the strategy of being recognized as the shopping, services, and logistics ways.
With around 45,000 employees, VIA has been publicly traded on B3 since 2013. It has stores in more than 450 municipalities, in 22 states and in the Federal District. With its robust and digital logistics network, it connects around 1,100 physical stores, 30 distribution centers in 21 states and delivery hubs to around 97 million customers. In its mix, there are home appliances, consumer electronics, cell phones, smartphones and tablets, computers, furniture, and sporting goods.
