Logistics: new operations streamline deliveries
by Dilnara Titara
The consequences of the pandemic demanded adjustments in different areas of action, and one of them was the fast and efficient delivery. New logistics operations within this industry are changing, and technology is part of this innovation, helping to improve warehousing services and streamline the transportation of goods across Brazil.
Working on new transport and security technologies for accurate routing models, in addition to providing agility to receiving processes, is essential, says Sérgio França, commercial and strategy director at Prosegur Cash. “The technological focus is part of our global digital transformation suite. We understand that improvements must be continuous and fast, making a difference for the customer.”

The logistics sector in the country continues to grow. The market demand in relation to the segment only increases, and technology is an important ally for success. As a result, is an acceleration of services and growth in the cargo transport and logistics sector in Brazil.
Despite the opportune numbers for the expansion of logistics, companies had to adapt quickly with the market flow to continue offering the same quality standards to customers and partners, despite the interference of freight and fuel increases and territorial impediments.

Geographic barriers
A continental country, with a high accident rate, has as its main challenge: to reach the most distant cities safely. Therefore, companies are committed to creating operations with the objective of streamlining, qualifying and overcoming challenges.
“With the partial closure of air traffic during the pandemic, the transport of high value-added cargo has reinvented itself. Carga Segura recorded growth of more than 50% in revenue in the first half of 2021, when compared to the same period in 2020”, says Nilza Soares, commercial manager of Carga Segura at Grupo Protege. “We act to minimize costs and customer losses.”
The entire logistics chain is challenging. In the initial route, there is the challenge of having the place sticked and with an adequate level to supply the region’s demand. It is necessary to have technology, automation and manpower to handle the orders and, in the final journey, an adequate fleet with all the routing planned and delivery controlled through technology. In addition, there are investments in CDs and mini hubs to minimize the challenges that the country imposes, says Daniel Ribeiro, logistics director at Via.
“We have logistics as a fundamental point in our operations, because its efficiency implies cost reduction. With technology, we are also more efficient in terms of resources and time.”
“At Via, we invested to expand our presence in Brazilian regions, with the expansion of stores that function as mini logistics hubs and with new distribution centers. We have logistics as a fundamental point in our operations, because its efficiency implies cost reduction. With technology, we are also more efficient in terms of resources and time”, highlights Daniel.
A logistics platform faces daily challenges to meet its goals, but the scenario changes with proper planning. Currently, Americanas S.A. has 215 hubs in its logistics network, structured in fast circulation points. According to the company, the hub is the area that connects all operational processes with a focus on the last delivery mile, which is when the order goes straight to the customer’s home.
Agility in delivery
Artificial intelligence, algorithms and virtual reality are some of the solutions applied to make logistics more efficient, more agile and more profitable. Currently, the greater the agility in delivering the product, the greater the distinction.
A reality that is very close to the country’s logistics circuit is the same-day delivery system. Agility is one of the most important characteristics nowadays. In the third quarter of 2021, at Americanas, deliveries within three hours represented 15% of the company’s total. Deliveries within 24 hours were 52% of the volume.
“We can do it on the same day to 50 cities, covering 20% of sales. Within one day for 2,100 cities, reaching 75%, and within two days for 4.7 thousand, covering 90% of deliveries.”
The purpose of democratizing commerce also applies to deliveries, comments Luiz Vergueiro, logistics director at Mercado Livre. “Currently, for Full deliveries, when Mercado Livre is responsible for the entire logistical process, we can do it on the same day to 50 cities, covering 20% of sales. Within one day for 2,100 cities, reaching 75%, and within two days for 4.7 thousand, covering 90% of deliveries.”
It is worth highlighting the importance of uniting speed with security. “Recently, we carried out a digital transformation in cash management and managed to pioneer the implementation of the Electronic Values Transport Guide (GTV-e) in Paraíba, Santa Catarina, Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Mato Grosso do Sul and Piauí, with the support of Confaz and the finance departments of the states in which we operate. The implementation of the GTV-e, in addition to generating greater speed for our operations, will reduce the consumption of 28.8 million letter-size sheets in one year”, says Sérgio.

Another important aspect of the advance of technology along the supply chain is the omnichannel approach, when it is possible to make a purchase at the physical store, website or application and receive the product at the chosen location, on the same day. This increases the commitment, security, quality of delivery from companies to the customer or partner.
