REVERSE LOGISTICS: MORE THAN JUST AN OBLIGATION
The Federation of Industries of Rio de Janeiro (Firjan) published a study that shows that the state loses R$ 1 billion in recyclable waste per year. The research helps to understand the paradigm shift that we are going through in society.
When the National Solid Waste Policy was published in 2010, it brought the obligation to create Reverse Logistics Systems for manufacturers, importers, distributors, and traders, who, at the time, received it only as an extra expense
But as the dialogue matured, that perception changed. Today, a growing group of companies understand the theme as a fundamental engine for the migration of business models towards a more circular economy.
The Firjan study is one of the proofs of this change. In addition, several forums debate the circular economy, in the technical standards reviews of the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), in working groups managed by the National Confederation of Industry or in the preparation of new ISO standards.
It is urgent to break the waste generation dynamic and increase the useful life of materials, making the most of the value of extracted and transformed resources. Based on this approach, we opened space for new business models, value propositions and forms of relationship with consumers. Reverse logistics is a need that goes far beyond the legal obligation.
