Small Brazilian growth, unfortunately, will continue in 2022
After a 2021 marked more by negative results than by the expected recovery, expectations for this year are for modest economic growth.
But this less than optimistic expectation did not start now. The country has not shown conditions to achieve robust growth rates for more than two decades. Most likely, on average, there will be a slow growth rate for industry, commerce and services, with honorable exceptions in sectors linked to new technologies and “remote” consumption and way of life. This scenario should, of course, impact trade: in 2022, the sector is expected to grow modestly, somewhere between 0% and 2%.
In fact, there is no miracle for 2022 other than minimizing problems with abundant credit, with programs aimed at small businesses. This, by the way, is a long-standing agenda of FecomercioSP, which has supported reforms with the aim of reducing the state dimension and modernizing the business environment, as well as demanding the reduction and redistribution of the tax burden.
The Federation is also keen to dealing with problems such as the urgent need to increase the formation of human capital, allowing productivity gains, as well as studying the improvement of the insertion of small businesses in modern ESG practices. Furthermore, it calls for the modernization of the relationship between capital and work (including proposals that adapt this relationship to the new technologies of digital economy and sharing), among other projects and claims.
