Resumption of growth depends on a new conjuncture
The consolidated figures for 2021 reflect what we had been observing throughout last year, that is, a macroeconomic scenario marked by the devaluation of the real against the dollar, inflation, the high Brazil Cost, and the rising cost of inputs and international freight.
Even though we had registered a very positive performance in the first half of the year, all this unfavorable conjuncture made consumption lose traction in the second half and ended the year with a drop of 7.8%.
Even with all the efforts to contain the price pass-throughs within a viable margin, the high unemployment rates and the drop in income compared to 2020 impacted consumer confidence, who chose not to commit.
In addition, a considerable part of these consumers return to spending on services such as leisure and tourism, among others, which was already expected and perfectly understandable.
To reverse this result in 2022 and get back on the path to growth, we need a significant improvement in economic indicators, which would positively impact the consumer market. This is our expectation in relation to the government.
For our part, we have a local industry that is globally competitive, we generate a consistent volume of quality jobs, and we are fully aware of our responsibility in cooperating with the development of our country.
