1.2°C, 8 billion humans and a pact of solidarity: a reflection on the climate

In recent decades, experts are changing their tone of voice when they talk about climate change and the consequences of the increase in the earth’s temperature for human survival. The alert has been more urgent, serious and must be heard by companies and governments around the world.
This becomes even more essential as we enter 2023 with 8 billion humans and a planet 1.2°C warmer. The proposed goal was to prevent global warming from exceeding 1.5ºC of what was recorded in the Industrial Age less than 150 years ago, but scientists are already warning that we will experience the consequences of our failure from 2024.
Environmental movements have been led mostly by scientists and the population, but it’s time for that to change. The greatest impact can only be made by uniting governments and companies to urgently place ESG pillars in the construction of business strategies and public policies. All spheres of society must make a “solidarity pact” now, as the secretary general of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres, said, starting to work together.
We have been warned: our generation is the last that can do anything to ensure that the experience of our grandchildren will have on this big blue and green planet will be the same as the one we had. It is the time for action and unity.
