REVERSE LOGISTICS OF ELECTRONICS AND HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCES: HOW IMPORTANT IS INDUSTRY SUPPORT?
Reverse logistics manages the return of materials and their components for new production cycles. It is essential for dealing with products that need to be recycled or disposed of appropriately. Therefore, industry collaboration is essential.
As a managing entity and non-profit association, ABREE’s financial resources for funding and operating reverse logistics come from members, that is, manufacturers and importers of electronic products and household appliances. However, this support can be provided in different ways.
· Product design: the industry has been seeking to design products that can be easily disassembled and recycled, using recyclable materials and simplified disassembly.
· Investment: companies often have resources to invest in technologies and infrastructure. In this case, these values can be applied to collective reverse logistics systems for electronics and household appliances.
· Socio-environmental responsibility: currently, many companies are becoming more aware of the relevance of socio-environmental responsibility. Therefore, developing communication and environmental education work is essential in the sector.
In this way, the industry plays a crucial role in the effectiveness of reverse logistics. Not only must be involved in developing products that facilitate recycling and reuse, but must invest in infrastructure and operations to ensure that returned products are handled in a sustainable and responsible manner.
