BRAZILIAN E-COMMERCE: CHALLENGES AND PERSPECTIVES FOR 2024

(ABCOMM)
E-commerce has been growing every year and consolidating throughout Brazil. Online sales have become viable and popular and impact the country’s economy. Data from the Brazilian Electronic Commerce Association (ABComm) shows that virtual stores generated more than BRL 185 million in 2023.
For 2024, the expectation is that revenue will exceed BRL 205 million. The consumer who, last year, spent an average ticket of BRL 470 must now pay BRL 490. The survey also reveals that 91 million people should opt for the virtual one, generating an expectation of more than BRL 418 million in online purchases.
To adapt to the new consumption profile, several companies already concentrate a large part of their sales on the internet. With an online store, the business operates 24 hours a day. Integration with social medias is another factor that attracts more consumers to the online environment.
However, there are also some challenges expected this year. The main thing concerns the definition of public policies that support the reduction of bureaucracy in the sector, creating ways for entrepreneurs to sell more without worrying about transactions.
Furthermore, the precarious infrastructure of urban roads and streets, as well as insecurity, make freight costs very high, another aspect that deserves due attention.
Therefore, the Brazilian Electronic Commerce Association is focused on tools that help train the workforce and create public policies.
