
Black Friday + Christmans: The recovery quarter has arrived
Black Friday encourages sale of products with higher added value.

At the beginning of 2022, the industry and retail were concerned about a possible cannibalization of the three events that take place in this last quarter: FIFA World Cup, Black Friday, and Christmas. “The fact, however, is that it is an opportunity, because it anticipates promotional actions for some categories, such as televisions, extends the seasonal period and allows us to work with offers of different products. There are three distinct moments with their own appeals”, explains Fernando Baialuna, retail director and head of consultancy at GfK for Latin America.

The FIFA World Cup, as it happens, when friends meet, expands sale of products that are part of the ritual of the event, such as electric grills. On Black Friday, the consumers buy gift for themselves, something they has planned since the beginning of the year, says Fernando. “This time there is also the 5G element, which increases the sales potential of devices super
premium for the most affluent and of the cost-benefit premium handsets for other social classes.”
On Black Friday, the consumer also turns to the purchase of appliances that synthesize practicality, such as
electric fryers and robot vacuum cleaners. And at Christmas, which is a family celebration, small memories prevail.
In the case of electronics, sales of products in the categories with the lowest average ticket predominate. “On the three dates, it is important for retailers to work the product mix in a broad and spaced way, with appropriate promotions appealing to each one of them”, says the director.

The year was not easy, but there is cautious optimism about this quarter, says Fernando. “We strongly believe that, in October, we will have a recovery due to favorable macroeconomic issues, such as the dollar value and falling consumer inflation, which allows predictability of costs, inventory, planning and romotions. The election point, historically, demonstrates resumption of trust, regardless of the winning ideology. “It is difficult to predict the percentage of growth, but this quarter will be one of recovery. Industry and retail will be able to recover much of this year’s losses.” On the following pages are the products for the dates.

Smartphones
Devices with this technology grew in sales in the second quarter of 2022.

The total smartphone market ended the second quarter of 2022 with a drop: 18% less in total units sold. Devices with 5G technology, on the other hand, showed a growth of 200% in these three months compared to the same period in 2021.

Black Friday 2022 will be the first with 5G as a reality in practically all capitals in the country, says Rodrigo Vidigal, retail sales director at Motorola. “The company was the first manufacturer to launch a 5G smartphone in Brazil and has great expertise in this technology. Our smartphones are ready to work on all the different 5G technologies available in Brazil today.”


Its main highlight is the motorola edge 30 5G, the thinnest smartphone in the world, with a thickness of 6.79 mm, 2 50 MP cameras, the main one with OIS, a 6.5” OLED screen with a refresh rate of 144 Hz, Dolby Atmos® stereo sound and Snapdragon® 778G+ 5G processor. An unusual feature is its special color effect,

In 2022, two of the recent releases will have special discounts, such as the Inspiron 15 3000, one of the most compact notebooks in the category. Another product is the G15, gaming notebook. It has 165 Hz refresh rate display options and latest generation
NVIDIA RTX graphics cards. The new G15 models have a redesigned thermal project so components operate
at their maximum capacity, ensuring a smoother gaming experience. “Our expectation is quite optimistic, we understand that, again, Black Friday should remain among the most relevant dates and with the highest number of sales for the company in Brazil”, says Sidney Zamel, sales director at Dell Technologies.

The newly released Lenovo Yoga Slim 9i is a premium notebook, covered in 3D glass. The big star is the Family Hub refrigerator, says Edianne Lima, product manager at Samsung Brazil. “The latest model is the Side by Side 585 L with soundbar, with features such as View Inside, so the user can see what’s inside the product without opening the door, using their Galaxy smartphone or through the screen from the outside of the fridge – the internal camera shows the food and its expiration date. You can also listen to music through a 25W soundbar and watch videos on the fridge screen.” Through the panel, control other smart products and through the SmartThings app, change the temperature wherever you are. It has an elegant design, external dispenser with cold water and ice always. It has the exclusive SpaceMaxTM technology, to store food in an organized way, and the Digital Inverter technology, which saves up to 50% of energy. Its compressor has a 10-year warranty.
Another product is the WD18T SMART 18 kg washer and dryer. Connected model, has intuitive control
panel. In the SmartThings app, you can plan washes, receive usage recommendations, and customize the dashboard. In the category of refrigerators, BB71 stands out, in Black Glass and Brushed Steel. It has the exclusive
SmartSense technology, which monitors the use of the refrigerator daily, making it work according to the
routine of the house. Together with the Inverter technology, it reduces energy consumption by more than
41%, as it is possible to automatically regulate the compressor according to the temperature that varies with
open-close of the door and the amount of food inside the product. It also has a Fresh Freezer compartment,
specially designed to store food and beverages at ideal temperatures for consumption or storage time.


Another product is the 13 kg washing machine F130B1W, in white, exclusive to the brand’s e-commerce. It has the best wash in the category due to its internal space and removes the most difficult stains with the Cyclone System, without the need for a central agitator, informs the company. It achieves the maximum energy efficiency rating and has the lowest water consumption when compared to competitors with the same capacity. Compact, it is only 60 cm wide. “We will have special actions for the dates, which will provide even more savings to the consumer. Black Friday and Christmas are periods of high sales expectations. In 2021, for example, 74% of the expected sales volume for the month of November was achieved in the week of Black Friday. We hope for the period of 2022 to maintain double-digit growth”, says Caio Cavalheiro Madeira Marques, general manager of products at Panasonic do Brasil.

which facilitates the opening of the oven door. In the 5-burner version, it has 1 extra-fast triple flame burner
with 3.3 kW of power. The oven has two racks, the upper one is sliding, with two height adjustments, and the
lower one is self-sliding. The door has double glass, the interior being coated with a film that helps retain the
heat of the oven.


The company is developing promotional actions for the date, which aim to benefit retail and the final consumer. “The expectation is for a great recovery in sales and a very heated end of the year. Consumers have shown themselves to be more open to promotional purchases, not just for basic line items, but for more robust products with superior design”, says Clóvis Simões, commercial director at Atlas Eletrodomésticos.

In high-capacity washboard, the Big 20 kg model has a water drainage system on the panel, a soap and softener dispenser, exclusive in the category, and a motor with 40% more torque. Another option is the Family Lite 10 kg, a recent launch, also with a dispenser, in addition
to the family filter, very efficient in lint retention. “The washboard was one of the categories that most
responded positively to the government’s fiscal and social incentives. In this new cycle of incentives, the expectation is that sales will accelerate in the first-needs categories. Black Friday and Christmas will be able to
further enhance these advantages for the consumer”, says Luciano Dressel, commercial and marketing director of Mueller’s washing machine unit.

Consumer continues to invest in products for home.
The small appliances category maintains sales at a good level, proof that the consumer has been investing in products that bring practicality to everyday life. In the first half of 2022, sales of small appliances grew 11% in value and 3% in volume compared to the same period last year, according to GfK data. Companies are preparing news for this end of the year.

For Christmas, the brand will do several actions, says Cristiane Clausen, executive director at Philco. “We will be present on the main television channels, in specialized portals, in points of sale materials and in targeted activities with in store promoters.”

For Black Friday and Christmas, a highlight is the Turbo Fast Oven PRP-004 Plus oven, which bakes cakes, breads, cupcakes, and other foods. It is electric and has a capacity of 39 liters, four mats measuring 35 x 35 cm and a digital timer for time and temperature. It is available in black, red, and yellow.

The preference is for models with higher added value
Companies bet on seasonal dates.
Traditionally associated with leisure and physical activity, bicycles have been gaining more space as a means of sustainable locomotion. At the beginning of the pandemic, there was a sales boom across the country, but in 2021 there was a small decline
of 2%, according to a survey by Aliança Bike (an industry association). Today, what can be seen is an increase in sales of bicycles with greater added value, which should be confirmed on Black Friday and Christmas. Check some highlights

Optimistic about the business for the end of the year, Caio Ferreira, brand manager at Athor, prefers does not mention numbers. “I expect an excellent result given the efforts of the marketing team with campaigns aimed at children, adolescents and adults.” The Athor Android bike, made of aluminum 6061, has Shimano components, geometry sport, and disc brakes, suitable for those who want to start in the world of mountain biking.
For the age group from 4 to 12 years old, the company indicates the Baby Girl, produced with carbon-steel and with V-Brake nylon brakes. It has spoked wheels, Downhill handlebars, and chain covers. “The product comes with auxiliary wheels to guarantee the first turns without the risk of falling, and the charm is due to the colorful basket”, says Caio.

The Verden Aro 12 Paty fuchsia bike is the highlight of the brand, with a carbon-steel frame and fork, nylon brakes with anatomical levers and wheels. “It is ideal for children who are taking their first rides to have fun safely. The product is certified by Inmetro”, says Everton Francatto, commercial manager at Verden Bikes.
Another bike, the Verden Aro 16 Rock, has a carbon steel frame, fork, and handlebars, which help with dexterity and improve balance. Over time, there is the possibility of removing the auxiliary wheels. The brand bets a lot on seasonal dates, which boost sales. “The color change of the lines will possibly generate a stock of the previous ones. Thus, marketing will carry out a specific campaign for these products for the main players in Brazil”, says Everton.

A study by GfK reveals that Brazilians are increasingly connected to electronic games. The number of people who play games every day has increased by 38% in the past year, with millennials being the most active. They represent 42% of this audience and are looking for products that improve their in-game experience. Smartphones and computers are more common among the gamer audience in the country, representing 86% and 74%, respectively, followed by consoles, which occupy 56% of the preference in the video game segment.
“Mobile is a more practical way to have access to games, as it is always at hand. This movement was also
greatly boosted by games designed for smartphones, such as Candy Crush, Pockemon Go! and Free Fire. With the growing evolution of smartphones, which are increasingly powerful, and with the arrival of 5G, it is becoming increasingly common for the public to increase their preference for mobile”, says Ricardo Moura, GfK solutions director in Brazil.
