MOTHERS DAY BOOKLET – Mothers even more connected
by Dilnara Titara
This will be the year of 5G in Brazil. No wonder that the demand for new smartphone models that meet this new technology has increased, among all age groups. Smartphone sales grew 3.9% in units in January 2022, compared to the same period last year, and the price fell 0.7%, according to data from research company GfK.
Mother’s Day is an excellent opportunity for the smartphone category in the Brazilian market. “Historically, it is the second most important date for retail and has gained a greater weight in recent years, when we need to stay even more connected,” says Junior Favaro, marketing and sales director of HMD Global in Brazil.
It is the strongest seasonal period in the smartphone category, says Clarissa Lettieri, marketing manager at Usina de Vendas. “The date generates expectation in consumers for launches and offers, as well as in retail, which bets on the period for sales acceleration. In 2022, we have high expectation for reversal of previous years, and the forecast is for a 50% increase in sales compared to 2021.”

Expectation connected to retail
The date is one of the biggest in Brazilian retail sales, says Renato Citrini, senior product manager of Samsung’s mobile devices division. “When we evaluate the smartphone market, we observe a great increase in interest for devices that promote greater productivity and practicality in everyday life.”
Since the beginning of the year, we can see that the sales conversion rate has increased significantly. “We have recorded more purchases in physical units. In any case, digital retail continues to be one of the main sales exponents for companies in the country,” says Luciano Barbosa, head of the Xiaomi Brazil project.
Smartphones are in high demand on Mother’s Day, says Manuel Castro, commercial director of Asus Brazil. “Our expectation is to overcome last year’s results, offer products in e-commerce and expand participation in retail with partnerships throughout Brazil.”

One of the most sought-after product
During the Mother’s Day period, demand increases, says Cristiano Carvalho de Freitas, director of business mobility at Positivo Tecnologia. “Without a doubt, smartphones are among the most sought-after gift products. To meet the demand, we offer from entry-level models to premium intermediates with different technical specifications.”
Rodrigo Vidigal, Motorola’s executive sales director, recalls that it is the second most important profitable date of the year in smartphone sales, second only to Black Friday. “In 2022, with a scenario of recovery and the consolidation of hybrid working models, we believe it will be an even more interesting date for the industry.”
