Connected Home is a world trend
by Dilnara Titara
Controlling devices from a distance, via applications and virtual assistants, and having smart products saves time and creates comfort. So much so that, in Brazil, 80% of members of the middle class want a connected home. And using all these technologies is only possible with the internet. It is through it that all devices can be connected and activated remotely.
The Internet of Things (IoT) made the desire more real. “These are innovations that make everyday life more practical, combining safety, comfort, economy and sustainability”, highlights Fábio Andrade Sebastiani, Intelbras business unit director.
All about connected home
A connected home allows remote control of equipment through applications and virtual assistants, with voice command and using the internet, so that they can perform actions on their own and connect with each other. Its benefits go beyond making everyday life easier. The connected home brings enhanced security, water and energy savings, practicality, convenience and greater comfort to the home.
They are customized solutions according to people’s needs and lifestyle. With these devices, it is possible to transform environments, automating lighting, sound, cameras, air conditioning, among other devices. “This technology offers numerous advantages in a smart home system. In addition to linking different types of products, it is possible to save time, money and energy in daily activities”, comments Marcelo Castro, CEO of i2GO.
How to differentiate products for the smart home and the connected home? “It’s possible to have a smart light and activate it by voice or an app, but making the home connected is more than just triggering it, it’s programming the devices to adapt to the routine, like turning on the lamp when the alarm goes off or lowering its intensity at night,” says Nayara Diniz, Steck’s product manager.
Even more connected
The expectation of technological expansion into homes is high, and the home automation market is very promising. “There are indicators that it will be one of the big businesses in the next five years, as more and more products are being launched to be incorporated into the connected home, and at an extremely fast speed”, highlights Antonio Carlos Pazetto, commercial manager at Elgin.
Connected home products are increasingly pres-ent in Brazilian homes, says Marcello Liviero, national sales director at TP-Link. “The most notable example is smart TV, which have become very popular in the last five years. According to data from the company Statis-ta, the market for smart products grew around 40% in 2020 compared to 2019.”
Today, there are more than 500 product options available with integrated or compatible Alexa, which make home automation much easier and more accessible and that arouse interest, says Daniel Almeida, business development manager for Alexa in Brazil. “With Alexa and the new compatible products launched, it’s much easier to have a smart home.”
Making everything connected does not in principle fit every pocket, but over time, most products will come out of factories supporting smart ecosystems. “With the natural movement of the market and the new products entering the category, the trend is for connected homes to be increasingly accessible, leaving the devices integrated and increasing the use of IoT”, says Rafael Assa, CEO of Geonav.
People look for quick and practical solutions that help them in their daily tasks. “The growth of the connected home market goes beyond entertainment. It is necessary to deliver benefits to the consumer”, comments Cláudio Blatt, president of the board of directors of Elsys. “The ease offered by these devices will become increasingly valued by the Brazilian consumer”, says Leandro Azevedo, head of product at WAP.
The concept of connected home is a reality, says Sonah Lee, marketing director for LG in Brazil. “The trend is for the house of the future to have more and more products connected to each other, optimizing and facilitating everyday life.” Thiago Araripe, marketing manager at Xiaomi Brazil, says that consumers are increasingly familiar with connected products. “The consumer notices the benefits offered by the devices technology, which aim to optimize time.”
The Brazilian market projection for the smart home exceeded US$ 1 billion in 2020, with estimates of tripling by 2025. The category has been growing on an average of 22% per year. “People have been looking for more convenience and novelties for their homes”, says Cristiane Clausen, executive director of Philco.
